Went to that pawnshop
they had a harp priced at two bucks
I had to have it, I get a job on a soda truck
playing hooky from school
I worked all week on the soda truck
because I had to have it
I had to have that harp

Saturday morning, the man gave buck and a half
¡¡one dollar fifty!! for a whole week of hard work
that´s a pretty shame
“It´s two dollars, boy” said the man in the shop
I laid my dollar fifty, took the harp and run
because I had to have it
I had to have that harp

I ran like the Devil but they caught me up
then came my trial and the judge asked me
“¿Why did you do it, boy?”
I said “please have mercy, I had to have that harp”

Then he asked me to play and so I did
and when he heard me then he understood
and gave the man the fifty cents that I owed
he shouted “¡¡Case dismissed!! and then he let me go
